Airports
For those flying in for our wedding, you have two primary airport options:
1. San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
SFO is the largest airport in the Bay Area and located about 13 miles south of downtown San Francisco. It offers numerous domestic and international flights.
Transportation from SFO to San Francisco:
BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit): BART trains connect SFO directly to downtown San Francisco. The BART station is located in the International Terminal. Trains run frequently, and the trip to downtown takes about 30 minutes.
Rideshare Services: Uber and Lyft are available at SFO. Pickup areas are designated and well-marked.
Taxis: Taxis are readily available at the airport and can take you directly to your destination.
Shuttles: Airport shuttles provide door-to-door service but might take longer due to multiple stops.
Rental Cars: Various car rental companies operate at SFO if you prefer to drive.
2. Oakland International Airport (OAK)
OAK is another convenient option, located about 21 miles from downtown San Francisco. It often has shorter security lines and less congestion than SFO.
Transportation from OAK to San Francisco:
BART: A shuttle bus connects OAK to the Coliseum BART station, where you can catch a train to downtown San Francisco. The total travel time is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Rideshare Services: Uber and Lyft operate from OAK with designated pickup areas.
Taxis: Taxis are available outside the terminals.
Shuttles: Airport shuttles provide service to various destinations, including San Francisco.
Rental Cars: Car rental services are available at OAK if you prefer driving.
Driving from Southern California to San Francisco
If you are driving from Southern California, here are your main routes:
1. Interstate 5 (I-5)
This is the fastest and most direct route, running through the Central Valley.
Route: Take I-5 North from Southern California. Once you reach the Tracy area, take I-580 West toward the Bay Area, then merge onto I-80 West to San Francisco.
Travel Time: Approximately 6-8 hours depending on traffic and your starting point.
2. Highway 101 (US-101)
This scenic route runs along the coast and offers beautiful views but can be slower due to more traffic and lower speed limits.
Route: Take US-101 North from Southern California all the way to San Francisco.
Travel Time: Approximately 7-9 hours depending on traffic and your starting point.
3. Pacific Coast Highway (CA-1)
For the most scenic drive, consider taking the Pacific Coast Highway. This route offers stunning coastal views but is the slowest.
Route: Take CA-1 North from Southern California. The route is winding and slower but very picturesque.
Travel Time: Approximately 10-12 hours, ideal for those who want to enjoy the journey.
